In a true reflection of art mimicking life, Ulan Murray and Rachel Burns’ striking sculptures are as harmoniously balanced as their partnership. The husband and wife team are best known for their copper and wire tree sculptures which show both the trunk and branches of the tree, as well as the intricate root system below the ground.

The pair work from memory to extrapolate their narratives. Whilst the works are reminiscent of familiar tree species, they reflect a poetic commentary on nature and our changing environment. By creating transection of the environment, the artists expose the unknown of the subterranean world. Presenting the works as a single isolated form Ulan and Rachel highlight the concept of the tree as a preserved specimen.
